Girls run the world!

Your thoughts (32) Queens of bling

Sisters Lethabo (11) and Kemo (13) believe that we are never too young to follow our dreams.

Who runs the world? Girls! Why? Because we have the potential to do great things, like starting a business!

My sister Kemo and I own a jewellery business called KL Empire. We make beaded necklaces and bracelets that we sell for R50 to R500. Why beads? Well, our mother loves beads and one day when we saw her making a necklace, we realised that we had help right under our nose! After asking her to teach us all about beading, we started creating our bling. At first, it was so we could save money to buy bicycles. But as more and more of our friends, school mates, family friends and our parents’ co-workers placed orders, we realised that we were on to something that had the potential to be big.

So we set up a Facebook page to show off our designs to more people.

You know what happened next? Important magazines like Drum and Destiny wrote about us. We also got interviewed on Power FM and appeared on Soweto TV.

Now what started as a plan to buy bicycles is a business that’s made R80 000 in three years. But we’re not doing it just for the money. We also want to show other girls that you are never too young to dream big! Girls are creative and smart. We all have dreams, and all our dreams count. If we keep believing in ourselves, we can achieve anything we want to.
