Sometimes it might seem like having fun with your friends can cost you an arm and a leg, but it really doesn’t have to be that way. We’ve put together a few things that you and your friends can do together for fun and still have lots of money left over to save for a rainy day.
Saving money is a great idea because it can mean that you have a lot of control over unexpected situations that you may happen. That extra cash that you save will come in handy when you’re short of some basic necessities at home such as pads or bread money. Saving those extra rands and cent will help you when you need taxi fare to go to a job interview. Whatever you need it for, saving money is a skill we all need to practice.
But remember, just because you are saving money doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun. Here are three things you and your squad can do to that is affordable:
An afternoon of games:
You and your friends can spend the afternoon having fun over games, taking selfies and sharing stories. This is a great way to enjoy being around each other, connecting and enjoying the freedom of being young and sisterhood.
Spend an afternoon chatting about your goals for the future with a vision boarding session. You and your friends can bring old newspapers, magazines and birthday cards and work on decorating your individual posters. Find pictures and wording in the magazines that represent your goals and what you aspire to and paste it on your vision board. Once done, you can take the board home and paste it where you can see it. This will be a reminder every day of what you are working towards. Plus with the money that you’re saving, you can reach those goals sooner than you think!
You could also have one for the squad, where you can visualise where you see each other in 5 years time.
You and your friends can enjoy being outdoors together. One of your friends can bring a blanket and cool drink, someone else can bring cutlery and sandwiches and someone else can bring snacks
Try packing food that is easy to eat and won’t have you spending too much time cleaning up afterwards. Carry games that you can play after you’ve eaten, old school games like dibeke (Skununu) or mgusha will be a fun way to spend the afternoon.
How you spend your money has an impact to your future - when you spend all your money at one go, you won’t be able to afford important items. So don’t play yourself, save those coins.
