Holiday time is here - yay! No more exams and early mornings for just a lil bit. School holidays are just the best because you get time to rest, hang out with friends and just chill. The holidays are also a great time to plan for opportunities and work towards your aspirations.
There are a few things you can do over the holidays to make the best of your break from school.
Get a holiday job
This is a great way to keep you busy and make some pocket money and maybe even help out at home. You can go to your local mall and see if the shops there need extra help. You can try to find a waitressing job or maybe work at a clothing store as a shop assistant. Also see if any of your neighbours need help with babysitting while they are at work.
Attend career expos
Career expos are events which help expose you to different careers out there. You get to learn about the subjects you need to take at school and which universities or colleges you need to attend to be prepared for the career path you have chosen. Here's a link to help you find out more about when and where these career expos will take place.
Shadow someone at work
If you already know what career you’d like to follow then shadowing someone at work will help you find out more about the job. Take a few days to go to work with a trusted adult and see what happens in your job of choice. Remember to ask for permission first from your parents and the person you plan to shadow.
We all understand school work differently and winter school is a great place to catch up on work you might have missed or feel you do not understand fully. You can also attend the classes to polish up on subjects you’re already good at but want to improve on. Yes, it’s school during the holidays but remember this is to help you do better for yourself and your future.
